Jungle Tour

Our guide will take you on a hiking tour into the jungle, to spot the large biodiversity of this area. You can choose to go on a morning or evening tour. During both tours you will be able to see the wide variety of animals and plants that live on the clay that covers the soil of these wet secondary forests.

Morning tour

At the crack of dawn the forest comes to live. You can hear the hammering of the woodpecker. A cuckoo calling its name. See the hummingbird with its beautiful feathers flitting from flower to flower. Enjoy our jungle and be enchanted by the magnificent colors of the parakeets, parrots and macaws that start colonizing the forest early in the morning, in search of the best spots to forage for food. Most often they use the old agricultural plots with fruit trees, formerly used by the residents of La Prospérité. These plots are now used by the great variety of birds that live here.

Evening tour

When the sun sets behind the horizon, you will experience a sensational transformation of the forest. It becomes completely silent. The birds stop their twittering and singing. Only the nightjar and owl can be heard. In the dark also the tree frogs, such as the Giant Leaf Frog (Phylomedus bicolor) and the Clown Tree Frog (Dendropsophus leucophyllatus) come to life. Join your guide in his search for snakes that hover on the overhanging branches in wait for a delicious snack. In the meantime, he will fill you in on all there is to know about the flora and fauna in this area.

Guides

During the tours you will be guided by a professional guide. This may either be a resident of La Prospérité, who has spent his/her whole life on the former plantation and therefore knows a lot about life here. Or your guide is a biologist, who is researching or has researched the area. In both cases, you are guided by very experienced guides, who can tell you a lot about the area and its inhabitants. They can answer all of your questions.
